Classic apple crumble is quick to cook in an air fryer. We’ve added tahini, sesame seeds and lemon for an intriguing upgrade.
Put the apples, 2 tbsp sugar, half the cinnamon, the ginger, lemon zest and juice, a pinch of salt and 1 tbsp water in a pan over a medium heat. Cover with a lid and cook for 6-12 minutes until the apples are as soft as you want them to be – either soft with a little fluffy sauce around them but keeping some shape, or completely collapsed into a purée.
Meanwhile, rub the butter into the flour until it resembles chunky breadcrumbs. Stir in the 30g sugar, the remaining cinnamon and a pinch of salt, then the tahini and sesame seeds.
Heat the air fryer to 180°C. Transfer the apple mixture to a baking dish that will fit inside your air fryer (or several – see Scale It Up, above). Top with the crumble mix, then cook for 10-12 minutes until golden brown on top. Serve with cream, custard or ice cream and a sprinkling of sesame seeds.
